Don't sweat a broken or old AC system! Although spring and summer can be quite hot in North Carolina, your AC system is designed to battle it and keep you cool. We've repaired and maintained basic efficiency AC systems all the way up to completely variable, high efficient AC systems. We can get yours working correctly.
Switching on your AC unit on a hot day should result in a cool, welcome breeze — not warm air! When this happens, it can be difficult to know what the solution is and if repairs are needed. There are a lot of things to consider and at Carolina Copper HVAC, we’re here to help you make the decision that is right for you.
When you call us, we’ll come out and assess the situation. We’ll be honest with you from the very beginning so you will know exactly what the issue is and then we’ll work with you to get an understanding of the best solution for you moving forward. We’ll never try to sell you anything you don’t need — that’s not how we work here. We’ll provide you with a variety of options — each one that will have a benefit to you and your family.
The first step towards deciding between AC repairs and maintenance is determining the force and amount of air that needs to be in circulation in order to achieve balanced temperature distribution throughout each room of your home. This knowledge helps us to understand if your current system is meeting the needs of your space and, if not, it will help direct us to the best solution to get it there. One of our Charlotte air conditioning repair specialists will explain how and why the repair or rejuvenation options we are recommending.
We offer free diagnostics if you choose us for your A/C repair on the day! Otherwise there is a diagnostic fee of $78 for evaluating the entire system and its malfunctions
Check to see if your thermostat is on, set to cool, and the temperature is set below the temperature your thermostat is indicating your home is.
Breakers trip all the time. Although it is a sign of an electrical failure in the AC system, it could be caused by a power surge or outage. Verify your AC system's breaker is in the on position. Resetting the breaker can also clear any control board faults and the AC could operate again. If your breaker trips as soon as the AC turns on, its time to call a pro.
Air filters are notorious for causing AC systems to freeze over and work very poorly. Filters should be changed every 1-3 months. Take your filter out and inspect for heavy buildup.
AC systems drain A LOT of water during the spring and summer months. This is caused by the warmer, humid air in your home contacting the cold cooling coil inside. PVC drain line pipes are used to route this condensate outside. If the pipe becomes clogged, gallons of water can fill the drain pan underneath the AC and damage ceilings and walls. Check for water spots and full drain pans to avoid any water damage.
Condensors or the outdoor portion of your AC with the fan spinning on top are needed to reject your home's heat to the outdoors. If the sides of the unit become dirty or encased in grass, dirt, or lint it will operate poorly and cause your home not to cool properly. Try taking a water hose and gently rinsing the condensing unit in a downward motion.
If none of these items help your AC system, its best to turn the system off at the thermostat or the breaker to avoid further damage. If the unit is icing up or overheating, there may still be a chance to repair it before extreme damage occurs in the motors, coils, or refrigerant system.

Air conditioning systems are just like any other appliance in a home. They need to be clean and within their expected lifespan to operate properly. Inside the copper piping that is connected to your outdoor unit are freon pressures that can exceed 300 PSI. That's a lot of pressure! As the system gets older, dirty or has wear and tear items that need to be replaced, heavy damage can occur to its compressor, fans, and electrical systems. Regular maintenance is the key.
